Molly Peacock is a poet and creative nonfiction writer, the author of six books of poetry, including The Second Blush (W.W. Norton and Company, June 2008, in the US; McClelland and Stewart, March 2009, in Canada) and Cornucopia: New & Selected Poems (W.W. Norton and Company in the US and UK; Penguin Canada, 2002).
Her other works include the memoir Paradise, Piece By Piece, as well as How To Read A Poem and Start A Poetry Circle, The Private I (which she edited), and Poetry in Motion (which she co-edited in 1996).
She performed her one-woman staged monologue The Shimmering Verge throughout North America, and brings the same blend of literary scholarship and performance to her presentations on Mrs. Delany.
Mary Delany's late-blooming artistry offers a quietly radical model for anyone who believes creative life begins only in youth. Beginning her paper-mosaic "paper mosaicks" at seventy-two, she transformed snippets of colored paper into a sprawling floral archive that blurred the boundaries between craft, botany, and portraiture. Her story, retold through Molly Peacock's biography The Paper Garden, reframes aging not as a closing chapter but as an opening one, where patience, curiosity, and accumulated experience become the very materials of invention. For readers drawn to design, fortune, and the visual poetry of gardens, her work suggests that the imagination does not retire; it simply waits, sometimes for decades, until the hands are ready to begin arranging color into form. The achievement feels less like a late start than like a long-prepared crescendo, proof that an artist's later decades can hold a life's most concentrated bloom.
On this site, the editorial spirit of the book is echoed in a clean, modern palette built around bright cyan and warm gold against crisp white. Sans-serif typography carries the prose with airy spacing and generous line-height, while diagonal color blocks divide the sections like the angled cuts of folded paper. Buttons appear as rounded cyan rectangles, and small line-art icons in the same hue guide the eye toward readings, reviews, and video material, all gathered to extend the conversation begun between author and subject. The visual tone is friendly and editorial, treating the story of Mrs. Delany as something still in motion, still unfolding, much like a garden seen from a new angle each time one returns to it.
